5 Ways I Take Care of Myself Daily As An Entrepreneur

Helloooo, blog fam. WOW. It's been... literal years. But I'm back, baby!

I've been a writer all my life, so it was only a matter of time before the writing bug bit again. I'm so happy to be here.

The idea for this post channeled through like wildfire - as they usually do - during my morning meditation.

Whether you're a solo entrepreneur like me, or just a sweet human doing their best chasing a dream (or simply just chasing peace) out here in this wild world, my intention is that these 5 tools call you home to the simplicity that self-care can be.

Tiny actions over time amass into our inner peace, the next evolution of ourselves, the next big breakthrough on the path to our dreams.

The way you show up right here right now is the only thing you're responsible for. Everything else, the Universe is weaving together in perfect timing.

If the way you've been showing up hasn't exactly been your best recently, no worries.

A sacred do-over is always available. The Universe responds to your vibration in the moment - not your vibration last year, last week, or 5 minutes ago. Every inhale is a completely fresh slate for you to write your own story

Start with just one or two of these 5 actions as an energetic reset, and watch as one action turns into another and another, and before you know it, a week has gone by and you're doing it.

Here are the top 5 ways I take care of myself as a solo entrepreneur (& also just a little human doing her best out here)...

  1. Daily meditation. This is my plain & simple non-negotiable. My meditation practice is everything to me. It's my intention-setting, it's my prayer, it's my communion with my soul & Higher Self, it's my channel to my guides, and it's a soft place to land at the end of a chaotic day. Most people make the mistake of assuming that meditation can only happen one way. It's just not true. Meditation can be eyes closed, legs crossed, spine straight. But it can also be breathwork. It can happen laying down. It can happen on a walk. It can happen within the context of movement. Anytime you bring conscious awareness to your breath, quiet your mind, and turn your focus inward, you're meditating. I know you probably hear this a lot, but meditation really is the key to becoming an unshakable force when unexpected challenges or turns in the road come your way. It's also the key to calm, clarity, presence, and confidence in your convictions, because they're coming straight from your soul.

  2. Daily movement. This is an absolute non-negotiable for me. If I don't get out of my head and into my body in some way each day, it gets loud up in here, and I can't hear my inner voice. For the entirety of 2023, I've been following along with Yoga With Adriene's daily free offerings. Feel free to join me here. I also spin 3-5x per week. The high-intensity nature of this type of movement comes with the added bonus of reminding me time and time again just how strong I am. If you want to remember how much of a warrior you are, put yourself in a challenging workout class. It may be excruciating in the moment, but feeling the depths of your physical strength and mental resilience will remind you every time that if you can get through that, you can get through anything.

  3. Consistent hydration. This one might seem too easy, but it's so easy to miss. Being thoroughly hydrated is incredibly good for mental clarity, flushing toxins from the body, and staying connected to your vitality. Drinking water can also become an intentional self-love practice. A full-stop in the middle of the day to fill your cup (literally) and a mini-stop in the middle of a task to mindfully sip this life-giving liquid is a small but mighty act of self-kindness. The body feels this. The body and the subconscious mind - on many levels - are one entity. Dis-ease in the mind & spirit leads to disease in the body. The more we feed and nourish our physical vessels with love, the more we stay communicative with them. This way, when something is amiss, we're quicker to notice and respond accordingly.

  4. Rest. I can't and won't force myself to go go go all day long. It's just not how my nervous system works. And honestly, it feels like sh*t to push past what I'm mentally and emotionally capable of handling in any given day. I find time to rest every day. Sometimes, it's a full-blown nap. Sometimes, it's a quick break on the couch where I completely unplug and disconnect from all things work related. Sometimes, I cancel or take things off my plate if I feel true dread around them so that I can go inward and understand where that dread is coming from. If intentional rest is a new idea for you, I recommend auditing your time and asking yourself, "what can I take off my plate"? What is sucking your energy that can be intentionally removed to create more space for rest? Where are you exerting energy when it's not necessary? In what ways are you telling yourself you NEED to keep that thing on your schedule/in your day? Where is that coming from?

  5. Connection. I connect to my soul family every day. Whether it's time with my husband at the end of the day or a voice note exchanges with my long-distance bestie, I make sure to lean on my people. As an entrepreneur, I can get DEEP into my own head. I'm constantly thinking about content, offers, branding, mindset work, my next steps, my clients, etc. I could easily get lost in there. When I connect with my soul family - the people who REALLY get me and can reflect my soul back to me & remind me who the f*ck I am in an instant, I feel lighter. I gain perspective. My energy shifts. Things that seemed incredibly heavy in my head have room to breathe and thrive and grow - or diminish and shrink and become less scary. Lean on your people. Let them remind you of your magic.

Okay, my loves, I want to know! Which of these 5 self-care ideas do you think would make the biggest difference if you implemented it for the next week? Please let me know in the comments below!
